Never get into a staring contest with a gecko

So I adopted a crested gecko from [info]ravynwolf a couple months ago. His name is Nubs, and he is one super rad little dude. Having his light on and the occasional chirping of crickets aren't the slightest bother (the former is actually surprisingly convenient), and sometimes when I'm waiting for things to load or whatnot, we just stare at each other until one of us blinks. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure crested geckos don't blink, meaning I've lost every staring contest I've ever tried with him. One day, Nubs, one day.

He adores the crickets I put in for him, but I haven't seen him touch his baby food. So the plan this week was to give him extra apple sauce (technically, apple/strawberry/banana baby food) and no crickets (Sunday is usually his cricket day), since I want to make sure he's getting a balanced diet.

So what does he do?

As though reading my mind, about a minute after I put the applesauce in (mind you, there's still a little left over from Wednesday), he crawls down the side of his cage and noms almost a third of the bowl before heading back up to his favorite branch. I'm not too keen on the strengths of a gecko's senses, but I'm wondering if the problem all along was simply that I wasn't putting in enough baby food and he wasn't able to smell, see, or otherwise detect it. I also usually stir just a little dash of a gecko diet stuff, but I didn't this time, since for right now I'm content with him just eating it. I'll probably fill his bowl again on Wednesday and add the diet flakes, since maybe now he's in the mood for baby food. There's still a cricket or two running around in there, so I know he'll be okay.

I'm really digging this dude even more than I thought I would. He gives the room a ton of personality. I already feel pretty attached to him - which makes sense, given that I spend a few hours a day sitting right next to him. The cats are mesmerized by him too, though I don't trust them yet to be alone in the room with him. I probably shouldn't worry, since the tank weighs more than they do. I just wish I knew if they were just interested because he's new or interested because he looks tasty, but I'll be assuming the latter until somebody tells me otherwise.

In other news, I "went to bed" at 8:30 today because I was exhausted and have to wake up at 5:30 tomorrow. So I woke up at 11 and now can't for the life of me get back to sleep, which is troublesome, given A) Monday books, B) work Christmas party, and C) being grumpy from lack of sleep this week. Glad to have Tuesday off!

Finally, probably going to go see Avatar in the next week!

And lastly, I had a good RP scene tonight and now my muse is whining at me.

To end, we have female versions of male superheroes (She-Hulk, Supergirl, Batgirl). Where are the male versions of female superheroes? Maybe "Wonderman" and "Hawkboy" just sound dumb.

And in closing, oh my god I have never known desire until I saw this. Perhaps I have a chance of beating Mother 3 yet.

To think that

Lindsay played this song for me once in the car and it reminds me of the roller coaster of emotions that I encountered all throughout 2009. The music takes me away. Songs like that are the best ones out there. It's one of those "close your eyes and get lost in the music" songs. This band is one of my new favorites. A refreshing indie band from the UK.
